more flea market fancy blocks

march-sisters-ten-BOM-1

I'm almost caught up on the Sisters' Ten BOM, only April to do and I had to hold off on them as I needed more kona white. I am kidding myself that this quilt won't really cost me much to make as I already had the FMF stashed but of course I still need to buy background/sashing and as usual I've totally not counted in backing fabric...

Anyway here are the blocks for March made from a block called School Girl's Puzzle. I'm not really that sold on the pink fabric, a bit too sugary for me but I'm going with it anyway.

April's block is Lady of the Lake and there are loads of hsts to be made so I think I'll be trying out the Thangles that I bought ages ago from M is for Make. Lots of folks were raving about them at the time but I put them in a safe place and yes you guessed it I then couldn't find them! I discovered them again the other day so I reckon I'd better use them before they go into hiding again.

Bye for now

children at play quilt

children at play

Remember this bundle of Children at Play by Sarah Jane it's been waiting for a while to be made into a Juice Boxes Quilt, pattern by Allison at Cluck Cluck Sew.

Well finally it's arrived at the top of my to-do-list. Better late than never as it needs to be finished before this weekend for my youngest's 5th birthday.

So I've had my head down and it's be cut, cut, cut. sew, sew, sew, interspersed with a few "Oh no you idiot why did you cut it that way....."? insert your own choice phrase there. Yes cutting out even the simplest of pieces is probably best not done at quarter to midnight, not if you want it to be the correct orientation and size.

Not to worry Frumble and Eclectic Maker to the rescue and I was back up and running. The pattern is very easy and I am still very in love with this fabric collection.

Happily on Sunday Hubbie took the kids out and I got the quilt top finished. I am really running close to the wire (nothing new there) and J asks me every day if his quilt is ready yet. The backing fabric and wadding arrived today so guess what I'll be doing tonight.

Another small tip - If when buying backing fabric you think "wow that's a good deal for 2 metres of fabric", you'll probably find when you open the parcel that arrives that it was in fact 2 half metres of fabric you bought - duh! Honestly I marvel at my ineptitude sometimes.

Linking up to WIP Wednesday for the first time in aaaages.

Anyway bye for now, must get back to the sewing machine.

Well I think this wip Wednesday thing is really helping me make progress with my projects obviously I'm now a day late with this post but I'll ignore that if you can.

wip wednesday

I've made some progress on my Cosmo Cricket disappearing 9 patch block. It's waiting to be quilted and then finally turned in a cushion cover. I still haven't decided what kind of closure to put on it. I could do my 'go-to' zipper style or I could be brave and try a concealed zipper. I found this great looking tutorial  from Jess at Craftiness is not an Option for a concealed zipper (check out the gorgeous Loulouthi fabric - big on my fabric hit list) so I might just give it a go.

Also on may wip list as I mentioned yesterday is a quilt for my eldest son. It's really tricky finding fabrics for a 14 year old! He's not keen on pattern much so it has to be mainly solids. Raiding my stash I found the transistor scrap of Ruby Star Rising that I won from Sarah at Pings and Needles and boom suddenly I knew what to make.

  fabrics for boy quilt

I added a few of the oakshott cottons, some charcoal and beige organic crossweave fabric based on the colours in the Ruby Star fabric. I don't have enough fabric to make blocks really and I don't think that's what he'd like anyway so I'm going to make a quilt with two large areas of plain fabric divided by a strip of random shapes and sizes. If you hadn't guessed I'll be making it up as I go along which I'm hoping will be fun ;)

Completed in the last week are the AMH zipper pouch (new make-up bag for me) plus a new pencil case for Jamie. That's not a great deal really but considering my output last month I'm quite happy. The Cloud 9 cushion cover is still ongoing, well hasn't been touched for some time actually and the 241 Tote will be finished tonight after being neglected last week. The cross-the body bag is still waiting to be sewn, hopefully by next week that one will be completed too.

So that's my first WIP Wednesday. I'm hoping that I'll check back against this over the next week and that I'll stay on track with these projects and not get diverted by other goodies that I see online. There are lots of gorgeous quilty makes on show over at Freshly Pieced including this one from Megan at Mia Dolce which I'm fancying trying for my daughters quilt request - oh no another potential wip aaargh! ETA ( ok I realise that this link was from last weeks WIP Wednesday duh! but I still really like it , think I need a cuppa).

Bye for now
