a quick fleece hat

The temperature has really dropped here the last few days, which means no rain and beautiful skies but it is freezing so thoughts turn to digging out the hats and gloves etc.  Junior is in need of a new hat, the trusty Buzzbee (pattern by the great Woollywormhead) I knitted him has been sadly rejected.  It's done him proud the last 2 years so I guess it was time to move on.

I have loads of fleece so thought I'd try and find a free pattern and rustle up a fleece hat. The pattern that came up first on my search was  this one on the  Martha Stewart site. Apart from stitching the top of the hat with right sides together I followed the instructions exactly.  I ended up making two hats as the first one came out too small and really the second one is too big. I'm still getting used to seam allowances on the overlocker.  I have to trim at least 1/4" off when overlocking or the trimmings get dragged into the seam or it generally get a very scruffy edge.  I salvaged a Thomas motif from a 'fit for the bin' t shirt and stitched it onto the front using my now favourite blanket stitch.

He seems happy and his head should be nice and cosy, so job done :)

Thanks girls :) It's funny isn't it how that kids still love Thomas so much when there are so many other characters out there to choose from now.
