totem advent tree

totem advent tree

A couple of years ago I saw this tutorial online at The Red Thread to make your own advent tree. It was the perfect excuse to buy up some of Lu Summers Totem wrapping paper. I love her designs and have a few bits of fabric squirreled away waiting for the perfect project. I'm sure you all already know about her Summersville fabric collection for Moda that's coming out April 2012 - another one for the wish list. Anyway back to the advent tree - I needed help with cutting out the numbers and circles so I went to see my very good friend and paper crafting expert/guru Debby to borrow her die cutter and dies. If you want to see some seriously good card designs then nip over and see Debby's blog Limedoodle she really does make the best cards.

This is a lovely easy project infact the hardest part is finding a suitable twig/branch to hang the cones on. Hubbie and youngest were charged with finding a twig on a recent walk in the local woods and they did a really good job. Infact they brought back two, the other twig/branch is so big I couldn't use it as someone would no doubt have lost an eye. We usually make little treats to put in the cones but I have to admit to buying some from M&S to see us through the first few days. However homemade peppermint creams and chocolate truffles are now in production so we've those to look forward too - yum!

It's really starting to feel Christmassy here, we've had lots of snow in the last few days, although not as much as last year thankfully. I am totally behind with present making, I've still Kirstin's quilt to finish and I've no hope of finishing Jamie's as I've not even started it yet. Christmas is going to be an understated affair here this year so I'm not getting overly stressed by it all - well not so far.

How about you are you all prepared or have you given yourself an impossible list of gifts to make?

Bye for now

Bought not a thing yet. Made some and posted a fair few off, but still a number of things to get done. I was stressed about it but not now. I have reached the 'if it is late then it is late' stage of calmness. Sure to change back to stress again any time now!

Love the advent calendar idea. And I'm on my way over for chocolate truffles. Save some please! ;-)

I love the Summersville prints! (didn't even know they came as papers) Looking forward to getting some of the fabric when it comes out :)

I love your advent tree - I wouldn't be wanting to take it down in the New Year though. I can't wait for the Summersville prints - I have a pair of trousers from the 80's that look similar - I might cut them up and match them in!
